Other departures are transfers. A person committed to the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections may leave Covington for a state institution while remaining incarcerated. Another parish warrant can lead to a different jail. A federal order may lead to USMS custody, and an immigration detainer may lead to DHS custody. The published fee schedule effective August 1, 2024 lists $15 per case or record for documents through 20 pages, then per-page charges. Electronic photos have a parallel case and count schedule. Fees can change. The current official schedule and estimate should control.
St. Tammany Jail Operations
The official Corrections Division page describes a 1,180-bed parish facility for pretrial and adjudicated people. St. Tammany Parish Government owns it, while the Sheriff’s Office staffs daily operations. That mixed population explains why the phrase “released from the jail” has no single next step.
A pretrial release does not settle the charge. A completed local sentence is not automatically full discharge from every matter. A state transfer is not freedom from custody. Record both the release authority and the destination when those details matter.
The official source set did not establish another adult municipal lockup, federal prison, ICE detention center, or state prison physically located in the parish. Rayburn Correctional Center is in Washington Parish. Regional court or program ties do not move that prison into St. Tammany’s facility map.
Correctional Center Release Timing
STPSO says it does not provide future release dates to the public. A release set for a designated date can be processed at any time from 12:01 a.m. through 11:59 p.m. There is no official promise of a just-after-midnight departure. That rule makes a legal date different from a pickup hour.
The Bond Office page also reports a daily closure from 5:00 to 6:00 a.m. and says extraditions are not conducted on weekends. Bond changes after 72-hour hearings are usually not available until after 1:00 p.m., and schedules can shift around holidays or court operations. These details describe processing limits, not a rule that every other kind of release stops at those times.
Wait for the post-processing 48-hour entry or request the record. A correct sentence or court date can still change because of an amended order, new hold, transfer, or administrative work.
St. Tammany Bond Processing
A judge or commissioner may set bond before the jail completes release. STPSO publishes separate methods for cash bond, commercial surety, and personal surety. Each has identification, payment, and eligibility requirements. “Bond set” means a court supplied terms. “Bond posted” means a method was presented. “Release processed” means the jail completed the departure after checking the rest of the record.
The official page lists a 2 percent office bondsman fee and a $30 processing fee for each bond written. Cash bond requires the full bond plus the processing fee, and card payments add 2.5 percent. A listed court-cost attachment is $268 when applicable. Exact change and identification rules also apply. Verify every current amount and method with the Bond Office before acting.
Cash-bond refunds occur after case disposition, not at the jail door. STPSO says that process may take up to six weeks and calls for certified minutes plus the bond receipt at Tickets and Fines. The delay reinforces the difference between the custody event and later financial or court steps.
St. Tammany Release Court Record
The jail release record answers when STPSO custody ended. The 22nd JDC file answers why the court changed the person’s legal status. Minutes may show bond setting, modification, dismissal, plea, sentence, credit, probation, or revocation. The court calendar merely says when something was scheduled.
The St. Tammany Clerk Criminal Department directs current case searches through re:SearchLA and warns that sealed cases are not public. A docket number is the best key. For a name search, match date of birth, middle name, arrest date, and charge context. Copies from 1977 forward use the Clerk’s criminal-copy process, while older records go through Archives.

Match St. Tammany Release Records
Identity checks matter because one name can point to several people or several bookings. Start with the exact booked name and booking number. Aliases, spelling changes, and repeat bookings can create a false match. St. Tammany ICE Transfer History
Historical ICE detention data identify Saint Tammany Parish Jail as STTAMLA under an intergovernmental service arrangement. The source covers fiscal years 2003 through 2014. It cannot establish a current contract, a present immigration program, or any named person’s status.
ICE explains that a detainer asks a local agency for notice and may seek custody for up to 48 hours after the person otherwise would be released.
